Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s and Special Guests Todd Morgan and The Emblems

Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88’s are the torch bearers of a great American musical heritage. Taking their inspiration from the great jump n’ boogie outfits and swingin’ little big bands of the 40’s, they breathe fresh life into the music that gave birth to rock n’ roll.

Mitch Woods, a Brooklyn native who calls his current upbeat piano style “rock-a-boogie,” started playing rock n’ roll with neighborhood friends at Brooklyn and Greenwich Village hangouts like the Café Bizarre, where they performed for $25 a night and all the salami sandwiches they could eat.

After moving to San Francisco, he began playing with the likes of Boz Scaggs, Commander Cody and the Sons of Champlin.

Woods formed his own band, Mitch Woods and his Rocket 88s, naming it after the early-‘50s R&B hit, “Rocket 88.” His deep love for the past masters of boogie woogie, R&B, and jump blues is evident throughout his music.

He fell in love with New Orleans, after a visit there, where he got the chance to play with members of Fats Domino’s and Professor Longhair’s bands. Since, he has dedicated himself to keeping those early sounds alive.

Woods has also recorded with John Lee Hooker, Johnnie Johnson, James Cotton, and Earl King. He’s received several Blues Music Award nominations, the highest award in the blues world.

Opening the show will be a young band from Sacramento called Todd Morgan & the Emblems. They will perform their original Pop/Rock songs along with many from the 50's and onward, performing them in a style, quality and manner that projects a youthful energy and a musical maturity at the same time.
