About George's

altThe History of George’s Nightclub:

1920’s – A plaque across the street from George’s at 842 Fourth Street claims that George’s had its early roots as a recreational pool hall when it was owned by Frank Healy.

1938 – According to Irene Lefevre, her husband George started the Recreational Parlor in 1938. George, a Canadian citizen, operated George’s before WWII and later went off to war to return and re-establish George’s as a fixture in Marin County, CA. George Lefevre was a traditional man and hired Frank Healy’s nephew John Healy and later Dave Lucas as his original bar tenders who were a staple for 20 years.

1949 – George remodeled the venue to make it a bar, bowling alley, and poolroom.

1977 to 2003 – During this time period, George’s went through multiple owners. Tom Batch and Dan Campbell changed the name to, “New George’s” and ran it for many years successfully. Don Schwartz later left his mark on George’s, bringing in multiple big-name performers and, lastly F.W. (Butch) Byrne’s operated and owned New George’s until it closed in 2003.

Historic greats (and some more current favorites) such as The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Huey Lewis and the News, Bonnie Raitt, Electric Light Orchestra, Vinyl, Chris Isaac, Melissa Etheridge, Pride and Joy, and The Edge all played George’s. 2003 – George’s very nearly became a member of the Kimball’s Pool Hall chain of restaurants, but plans changed and Kimball’s never moved in.

2010 – Current Owner, Todd Ghanizadeh, began construction on George’s Nightclub, transforming it into a sleek 1940’s style nightclub. We would like to acknowledge and thank all the previous owners and employees for making George’s past so successful.
